Welcome to the North Branford Fire Department

BENEFITS OF JOINING OUR TEAM

The application process to join the North Branford Fire Department begins with submitting a complete and accurate “Application for Membership” through their Company Captain. Once received, the application is reviewed by the Fire Chief and his staff, the applicant is scheduled for a comprehensive medical exam. If the applicant passes the exam, the Captain is notified and the new “probie” is turned over to the Company Officers for orientation. Each Company has a probationary period as cited in their By-Laws. Once approved as a Company member, personnel are expected to attend Monday night drill sessions, monthly Company meetings, assist in fund raising and perform station and public service duties. As a member of the North Branford Fire Department, personnel have access to not only in-station weekly training but the ability to attend classes, seminars and workshops sponsored by the CT Fire Academy, regional fire schools, EMS organizations, Yale New Haven Sponsor Hospital Program and other fire departments. In return for these services, members will be able to receive credit toward an annual stipend up to $1,000 and work toward pension benefits. Company By-Laws outline additional roles and responsibilities, specific membership requirements outside of the basic Department mandates. Each Company manages an inventory of uniforms for its personnel while the town equips members with OSHA/NFPA approved structural firefighting ensembles. Members are issued a “pager” to receive alarms and the ability to receive “text” messages of incidents via their personal cellular device. Flashing blue light permits are issued annually in accordance with CT State Motor Vehicle Laws. A majority of our members reside in the town however, the Department does accept applications from those who reside out of town and are able to meet the NBFD requirements.
