North Branford Fire Training Facility

The Town of North Branford Fire Department constructed a Fire Facilities WESCO Model WH-3ST fire training facility during FY 2015-16 with funding provided by the Town Council. This facility is located adjacent to the town public works complex, 290 Forest Road. The project was managed by the fire department’s administrative staff who served as the general contractor.

The training complex is a pre-engineered steel structure that is composed of a two and one-half story building with Class A burn rooms on the first and second floor. These rooms have electronic temperature monitoring system which signal to a control center mounted on the exterior of the building. Connected to this is a three story training tower which includes a standpipe system, forcible entry door prop, confined space hatch and multiple fixed anchor points for rope operations. The burn building has two cut out roof scuttles and anchor bars for rook ladder operations. An exterior fire escape and interior stairwell allows for hose line advancements.

The construction of the training facility came to light following the 2014 Insurance Service Office (ISO) evaluation in 2014 which cited deficiencies in the Department’s ability to adequately train members. Since the site began operations, numerous mutual aid departments as well as the military fire suppression units have enjoyed its use.
